Leap Castle is said to be the most haunted castle in Ireland. Leap Castle is situated in Coolderry, County Offaly. It has had a horrific history with each passing century being punctuated by ferocious acts of violence. One of the most gruesome murders to take place in the castle occurred in 1532 in a room above the main hall of the castle which is now known as ‘The Bloody Chapel’.
For more dramatic history, you could take a trip to Leap Castle, which is said to be haunted by a number of spectres, the most terrifying being a small hunched creature whose apparition is accompanied by a rotting stench of a decomposing corpse and the smell of sulphur.
The castle has been visited by paranormal investigators from ABC Family’s Scariest Places on Earth and Living TV’s Most Haunted in its first season, as well as The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) from Syfy’s Ghost Hunters. Most recently in August 2014, Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures filmed their tenth season Halloween special at the castle.
