Marketing English in Ireland (MEI), the leading association of English Language Education (ELE) providers in Ireland, welcomes the announcement by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, of new regulations that will underpin the International Education Mark (IEM).

The International Education Mark (IEM) is a new statutory quality mark and part of a suite of legislative measures designed to protect international learners and safeguard the international education sector in Ireland.

The new mark will be awarded to higher education and ELE providers who have demonstrated that they meet national standards to ensure a quality experience for international learners from enrolment through to the completion of their programme of education and training. Introducing a new quality mark will enhance the reputation of Ireland’s ELE providers. We look forward to supporting our members to achieve the IEM in the coming months.

MEI and 8 ELE providers have travelled to Korea this week to participate in the high-level trade mission led by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar. During the trade mission week, MEI will host an alumni networking event, meet with local business partners and attend an education event hosted by Minister Harris.

Speaking from Korea, Lorcan O’Connor Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer of Marketing English in Ireland, provided the following comment:

“The English Language Education (ELE) sector welcomes the next stage of progress for the International Education Mark. For many months MEI has been in consultation with Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) on policy documents relating to corporate governance, quality assurance and the ELE code of conduct. MEI has also delivered a series of IEM-focused training sessions to help our members prepare for the implementation of IEM regulations. We are encouraged by the progress made to date and will continue to support our members during the application and inspection process. We look forward to the launch of a high-quality internationally recognised accreditation mark.”
